Living in Kamloops
The honest, unfiltered guide to life in the Thompson Valley. From the semi-arid climate to the cost of living.
More Than Just a Postcard
Kamloops is an amazing place to live, but like anywhere, it has its quirks. From the semi-arid climate to the valley geography, here's what you need to know before you move.
The Quick Reality Check
Four things every newcomer notices immediately.
Kamloops is one of the sunniest cities in BC. Summers are hot (often 30°C+), so A/C is a must. Winters are generally milder than the rest of Canada but can still get cold snaps.
Living in the valley bottom (North Shore, Downtown) is flatter and warmer. Living in the hills (Aberdeen, Sahali, Juniper) offers views but means steeper driveways and slightly cooler temps.
It's dry here. This is great for avoiding humidity, but it means xeriscaping (low-water landscaping) is popular and practical. Dust can be a factor in some areas.
Like much of the BC Interior, we can experience smoke during wildfire season (typically August). It's a reality of living in this beautiful region.
